THERE were some outstanding performan-ces in the second week of the league season.
Westinghouse bowler John Cleverley led the way with a league best return of four wickets for one run in 10 overs, nine of which were maidens, in his side's Division One game at home to Potterne. Westinghouse had made 153-8, and Potterne were all out for 70.
In the same division, Bath Civil Service's John Fair took 9-52 in 13.2 overs in their 31-run victory over Beanacre.
Not to be outdone by their Division One side, Westinghouse 2nds totalled 402-7, their highest league score, with Aussie Tom Francis also setting a club record with 169, in their Division Seven thumping of Potterne, who were all out for 118.
Top batsman was Biddestone 2nds Dwaine Perry, who scored 192 with 17 sixes at Goatacre in a Division Six game. Biddestone totalled 319-8, their highest-ever league score.
Perry then demonstrated his prowess with the ball, taking 5-7 in three overs as Goatacre collapsed to 70 all out.
Another fine all-round performance came in Division Four, where Blunsdon's Rob Harrison hit a six off the last ball to give his side a three-wicket victory at Heytesbury. Harrison had earlier taken 6-36. His teammate Kevin Aubrey took 4-23 and scored 74 in the same match.
Division One
BOX won for the second week as they travelled to Calne and scored 199-7 in their allotted overs before restricting their hosts to 155-9 in reply.
Burbage had a four-wicket win at Buscot Park. Buscot scored 124 all out (Garry Thomson 29, John Morton 24) as Terry Chaplin took 5-44 in 14 overs. Then, despite Joe White taking 4-31 in 14 overs for Buscot, it was Pete Amor, 30 not out, and Roy Barker, 26, who steered Burbage home with three balls to spare.
Division TWO
Nationwide House won again, this time by seven wickets at home to Highworth. The visitors scored 128 all out with Rob Miller top-scoring with 32. Stuart Archer (3-23) and Mark Morris (3-38) were Nationwide's leading bowlers. In their reply a rapid 69 in 52 balls from Mark Vincent saw the home team to victory with 12 overs to spare.
Minety picked up their first win as they held home side Bradford Town to 155-9 (Clive Warren 55, Trevor Scott 4-31 in 10 overs). Mike Gregory with 50 not out then steered them to a seven-wicket success with 10 overs remaining.
Great Bedwyn lost a close game at home to Lechlade after the visitors had scored 198-6 (Nick Smith 58, Roger Pettifer 44, and Chris Blundy taking 4-49 in 15 overs). Then, despite 47 from Blundy and George Stone's 50 it was Smith with 6-48 in 15 overs who swung the game Lechlade's way as Bedwyn were bowled out for 186 with just three overs to spare.
Division THREE
Relegated Spye Park crashed to an eight-wicket defeat at Dauntsey Gentlemen. They were shot out for their lowest ever league score, just 31, as Alan Baldwin with 6-19 in 12.1 overs and Anthony Lewis 4-11 in 13 did the damage, one of Spye's openers carrying his bat for 15 not out.
At Cherhill visiting Wanborough scored 161-9 with Mat Hayden 55 and Keith Stacey 24. Andrew Clinning (3-30 in 15 overs) and Alan Thomson (3-27 in 13) were then largely responsible for bowling Cherhill out for 127, Alan Mortimer top scoring with 22.
At Swindon the home side's 3rd team gained a four-wicket win over visiting Bathford after restricting them to 132-7.
Division FOUR
Corsham 3rd were restricted to 102 all out at Lambourn by some steady bowling. Mark Unwin then replied with 6-9 in 15 overs as Lambourn subsided to 33 all out.
Relegated Coates lost for a second time, this time at Ramsbury. Nick Money's 55 held their innings together as they struggled to 114 all out. Richard Gilligan took 3-19 then hit 32 as Lambourn cruised to a comfortable seven-wicket win.
Division FIVE
A close match at Chippenham saw the home side successful by two wickets against visiting United Churches. The Churches scored 200-6 with Richard Tong 40 and Dave Martin 40 top-scoring. Tom Bowler took 4-26 in six overs and Dave Sylvanus 2-47 in 13. In response Aran Merryweather's 52 led the way, well backed up by Sylvanus's 26, Ray Bullen 28 and Joe Haines 25 as Dave Bamford took 3-44 in 12 overs.
Avebury showed they are going to be a force to be reckoned with as they hammered 270-7 at Burbage 2nds, John Coley 55 and Dan Fry 64 leading the run spree. Nigel Osborne then took 4-28 in 10 overs to help dismiss Burbage for 82.
Division SIX
At Box 2nds visitors Calne 2nds had James Guthrie's 108 not out to thank as they reached 185-8. In reply Box were restricted to 149-5.
Cooper-Avon Tyres 2nd were bowled out for 118. For visiting Buscot Park 2nds Andy Moreby's 63 not out helped them to an easy seven-wicket win with 17 overs in hand.
Division SEVEN
Dauntsey Gentlemen 2nd crashed to their lowest league score as they were bowled out for 49 by Trowbridge A, Steve Chalk (5-22 in 11 overs) and Pete Rutland (4-14 in 12) doing the damage. This was in reply to a Trowbridge total of 130 all out, Chalk top scoring with 34 as Mel Cammish took 3-40 in 11.2 overs.
Promoted sides All Cannings and Nationwide House 2nds met at All Cannings and the home side gained an impressive 72-run win. After scoring 177-7, Kevin Ryles took 5-23 in nine overs to see Nationwide bowled out for 105.
Division EIGHT
Wootton Bassett 4ths entertained Devizes 4ths and won by six wickets. Devizes made 116 all out with 14-year-old Stephen Gardner taking 3-7. He then made 27 not out and with Garry Williamson (38) saw Bassett home with 23 overs to spare.
Marshfield 3rds were bowled out for just 66 at home to Swindon 4ths with Stephen Cole taking 3-11 in six overs and 13-year-old Craig Taylor 2-4, Swindon going on to win by seven wickets.
At Highworth, Cherhill 2nds made 144 all out. Garry Bryant took 4-31 in 11 overs and Geoff Halls 4-31 in 10.2 overs. Skipper Craig Bell's 72 not out then saw the home side to a narrow one-wicket success with seven overs in hand. Paul Andrews took 3-35 in 14.1 overs and Hutchins weighing in with 5-45 in 12, including a hat-trick, but all to no avail.
