BARBARA Brettell has received a special memento to mark her retirement from the board of Thamesdown Transport Limited, one of Swindon's bus operators.
Mayor David Cox, pictured left, presented Mrs Brettell with a model Swindon Corporation Bus at her recent farewell party.
She was one of the founder members of the Corporation Street-based company's board of directors nominated by the borough council in 1985.
She said: "One of the biggest difficulties since bus service deregulation has been balancing the potential conflict between the need to make sufficient profit and providing a public service.
"But by the terrific loyalty of the staff and careful management the company has moved forward a long way since 1985."
Thamesdown managing director John Owen said: "Barbara's knowledge and experience when the company was being set up and since has been invaluable."
Chairman Percy Jefferies added: "Barbara often asked awkward questions at the wrong time but always for the right reasons.
"She was an excellent board member and we are really going to miss her."
