THREE Marlborough mothers will be taking part in a trek along the Great Wall of China in September, to buy equipment for the new Great Western Hospital in Swindon.
Nurses Ruth Fleming from Kelham Gardens, and Torrill Averill from Coldharbour Lane, and publisher Kay Tyler also from Kelham Gardens, will be in a team of about 100 who will walk along part of the 1,450 mile wall.
Each will be sponsored for more than £2,000 which will be shared between the Evolution Appeal and the GWR Community Trust.
Two Marlborough police officers, Mike Barrett and Richard Oakman, are also taking part in the trek.
Mother-of-two Mrs Fleming is a theatre nurse at the Ridgeway Hospital in Wroughton, and Mrs Averill, who has three children, is a practice nurse in Ludgershall. Mrs Tyler has three children.
Mrs Fleming said they were all looking forward to the eight day trip.
She said: "This is a chance for us to help give something back to the community."
The three women manned a stall asking for sponsorship at last Monday's car boot sale in the Waitrose car park. Sponsorship can be sent to Ruth Fleming at 6 Kelham Gardens, Marlborough. SN8 1PW.
