WITH the sun streaming through the stained glass windows, pupils from Bradon Forest School performed music live on air for the first time.
Around 50 orchestra and choir members, aged between 11 and 16, entertained Flame FM listeners with some classical music.
The budding musicians hosted the first of four hour-long concerts in Bath Road Methodist Church yesterday.
Flame FM on 106.8 is a community radio station with a Christian flavour. It was officially launched on Monday by the Bishop of Swindon, Michael Doe, and Canon Michael Johnson of Wroughton. Swindon Churches Together, a cross denominational group, is running the station 24 hours a day for the next four weeks.
Violinist Sasha Izadpanah, 12, said: "Performing live music is very exciting. Even though my family will be listening at home, I'm not nervous."
Providing a wide range of styles, the students performed everything from classical marches to English folk songs, such as Tavern in the Town and For He's a Jolly Good Fellow.
Singer Laura Marsden, 13, said: "It's great fun but also quite frightening because I haven't sung on the radio before."
The musical feast was organised by David Gibbs, head of music at Bradon Forest School in Purton.
He said: "They all enjoy playing and make a good team.
"It's great to take music into the community."
