BRINGING more front-line police officers on to the streets of Amesbury and tackling under-age drinking will be high on the list of priorities for the new mayor of Amesbury.
Neil Morrison, who took over from Major John Turner at last week's annual council meeting, told town councillors some of things he would like to achieve during his year in office.
Mr Morrison, who is one of the longest-serving members of the council, having first been elected in 1976, said he wanted to try and persuade the powers-that-be at police headquarters in Devizes that their perception of what Amesbury's policing needs were and what the people of Amesbury required were "somewhat different."
Mr Morrison said: "The general public is getting fed-up with under-age drinking and its connection with anti-social behaviour, is fed-up with people cycling on pavements and footpaths and is fed-up with vandalism."
