THE name of every street, road, close, terrace and lane in Calne will be read out at a special church service to pray for the people of Calne and the problems they are facing, later this month.
It will be only the second time all the names have been read out in a single service in the town and was the idea of the Rev Philip Bromiley from St Mary's Church.
"I had the idea for creating an up-dated list of every name of every street on arriving in Calne a year ago," he said.
"It's quite hard keeping it up to date, since there is so much change in our town at the moment.
"In all of the Anglican churches in the parish, we use the street names for prayer daily through-out the month, but have only had a go at reading all of them out loud once. On that occasion, it was at a quiet day in St Peter's, Blackland and it proved to be a powerful tool for prayer."
The service is being held on May 29 at Calne's newest church The Open Door, which has weekly services on a Wednesday evening at Fynamore School. For more information contact Mr Bromiley on (01249) 818677.
