PEOPLE in Market Lavington are being encouraged to throw out unwanted items as part of a junk swap day.

On Sunday, householders will be able to get rid of almost anything or pick up an item discarded by someone else.

Residents in Fiddington Clay, Southcliffe, Grove Farm, White Street, Northbrook, Bouverie Drive and Canada Rise can leave items at the end of their drive, marked with a junk sticker available from Market Lavington Post Office, or they can take items along to the Old School between 11am and 3pm.

Parish councillor Sharon Charity said the aim was to reuse goods and reduce the need to dump items at landfill sites.

"We would ask people to clear out their attics, garages, toy cupboards and garden sheds. In the last junk swap day, six large skips of junk found a useful life instead of contributing to Wiltshire's landfill mountain."

Almost anything can by swapped except electrical goods, car batteries, and toxic items. Items which are not swapped will be collected on Monday.
