AN open day is planned on Sunday at Burbage and Easton Royal Tennis Club to celebrate the official launch of the newly refurbished courts.

A number of fun activities and games are planned.

Juniors are invited to the morning session from 10am to 12pm , with the adult sessions taking place from 1pm. New members are welcome to come along and join in the fun.

The club, which is part of the GRAB (Great Bedwyn, Ramsbury, Aldbourne and Burbage) Tennis Partnership, runs coaching and events for its members and has a regular club session every Sunday from 2-5pm.

In the last two years it has also been developing junior tennis in Burbage and has established closer links with the primary school.

Its ladies' team is also competing in the Wiltshire League.

The court refurbishment represents a major investment for this small village club, which was established in the 1980s and is affliated to the Lawn Tennis Association.

The club has used its own funds, together with support from the Burbage Sports Club, to which it is also affliated.

The Sports Club raises funds by running the hugely successful and popular annual Burbage Beer Festival.

Freda Cronk, the club chairman said: "We are delighted with the new court surface. The work has been completed ahead of schedule and in time for the new season.

"We hope the members will enjoy the improved facility and that it will encourage an upturn in membership.

"It's great to be able to provide good quality courts on our own doorstep."

Mrs Cronk added: "Our aim is now to further develop our junior programme to give youngsters in the community every opportunity to play tennis both for fun and competitively."
