FORMER England international Derek Morgan was the guest of honour as Devizes Rugby Club held their 36th annual presentation dinner on Friday evening.
The dinner was the first staged at the club's new London Road headquarters and 116 members, sponsors and supporters heard speeches from Morgan and Arthur Bowden, the honorary general secretary of the Dorset and Wiltshire RFU.
The evening began with a minute's silence in memory of Peter Wright, a former Devizes player and chairman who once lined up alongside Morgan in the national side.
Mark Hill scooped the clubman of the year award, while captain James Gaiger was named as the first XV's player of the year. Jamie Walker and Rob Edwards took the honours for the second and third teams.
Steve Rose was awarded the Ray Smith Trophy, while stalwart Mike Maundrell received a Rugby Union volunteer's tie for 67 years of unbroken service to Devizes.
Maundrell was also awarded a volunteers certificate by Dorset and Wiltshire secretary Bowden for his 18 years of service as a member of the twin counties' committee.
Devizes are looking for new players ahead of the 2002/03 season, which begins in September. Anyone interested can contact Ray Taylor on (01380) 723537.
