A bike pool launched by Wiltshire County Council is designed to make it easier for staff to cycle to meetings.
The scheme, based at county hall in Trowbridge, aims to cut down car usage for short journeys on council business.
Council chief executive Keith Robinson said: "The pool bikes are a great idea, as using them will make us healthier, help cut pollution and contribute to the council's travel plan, which encourages staff to cut down unnecessary car use.
"Short distances can often be quicker than driving, especially when counting the time spent looking for car parking."
Travel plan co-ordinator Anik Bennett said: "We have two mountain bikes and a fold-up bike, which is useful for journeys linked to public transport.
"If staff are going to meetings outside the county, they can cycle to Trowbridge station and get on the train with the bike."
