Volunteers have helped Bath Hospital Radio to win a gold award as the top hospital radio station in the UK.

Bath beat 200 other hospital radio stations to win £1,000 prize money at an award ceremony in Glasgow.

Chairman of Bath Hospital Radio, Nigel Richards, from Melksham, said, "This award is a great tribute to the work and enthusiasm of our volunteers. We try to ensure that programmes are professionally presented and focussed on the hospital community, providing information, requests and favourite music."

The station broadcasts to the Royal United Hospital and Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases. The 15-minute entry included a documentary about the station's work, plus programme extracts and interviews with patients and volunteers.

Darran Huish, from Westbury, who collected the award, said: "We were in the Top Ten for the past two years, but we had no idea we were going to win."
