Tuesday, May 21 marks the end of my year as mayor of Trowbridge. Please allow me to use these columns to wholeheartedly thank the people of the town for all the support they have shown throughout the year.
Being mayor of our town is a great privilege and honour, but with this support, rendered in so many ways, it has also been a great pleasure.
Being mayor is the best prescription any doctor can give. It restores your faith in humanity.
You meet so many interesting and good people particularly those working away in the numerous voluntary groups in the town.
These groups very rarely make the headlines, but as mayor you can see and recognise their invaluable work.
Long may they continue to make Trowbridge the good and caring town it undoubtedly is.
My mayoral charity involves both the Friends of Trowbridge Hospital and the local branch of Bath Cancer Support. It is the Scanner Appeal for Trowbridge and the other West Wiltshire towns.
The objective of the mayoral charity was to get the appeal launched.
This has now been well and truly done, with a sum of nearly £2,500 raised to date.
It is not too late to still make donations. This can be done via the Trowbridge Town Council offices.
In the years ahead I will continue to fundraise, in a personal capacity, for this appeal.
Once again, thank you for your support and advice.
Please give the same valuable service to the next mayor of Trowbridge.
The people, and the council of Trowbridge, working together can achieve so much.
Jeff Osborn,
Mayor of Trowbridge.
