CLIVEY's Pond was the venue for last week's Airsprung match where fish proved hard to tempt.
Top honours on the day went to Trowbridge's Ian Stainer with a mixture of small carp, roach and skimmers weighing 5lb 6oz 8dm taken alternating with pole fished sweetcorn, chopped worm and casters.
The runners-up prize went to Bradford on Avon's Barry Oakford with a mixed bag of tench, roach and skimmers weighing 4lb 9oz taken on pole fished red maggots on a 20 hook.
He was followed by Steve Southern from Trowbridge with a mixed catch of roach, rudd and skimmers weighing 3lb 15oz 8dm taken on pole fished red maggots on a 20 hook.
Other placings: 4. Malcolm Amoldi Snr, Westwood 2lb 12oz 8dm; 5. Bill Turner, Trowbridge 15oz 8dm; 6. Steve Howells, Trowbridge 14 oz 8 dm.
The Wilts Angling Open match at Rood Ashton produced reasonable catches. Top prize went to Trowbridge's Steve Shaw with an all carp catch weighing 35lb 14oz taken alternating with feeder fished red maggots and sweetcorn.
Bradford on Avon's Ian Willetts clinched second prize with another all carp catch weighing 29lb taken on method feeder fished sweetcorn and red maggots.
He was followed by Westbury angler Mick Withey with another carp catch weighing 28lb 2oz also taken on feeder fished sweetcorn and red maggots. Other placings: 4. Dean Adams, Bradford on Avon 12lb 5oz; 5. John Greenwood, Trowbridge 10lb 14oz; 6. Bernie Ryan, Devizes 9lb 2oz.
Sport was mixed in the Airsprung match fished on Sunday on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Tithe Barn.
Ian Stainer again had a good day, carrying off top prize with a mixed catch of roach and skimmers weighing 6lb 12oz 8dm taken on pole fished squats and pinkies on a 22 hook.
Runner-up spot went to Steve Southern with another roach and skimmer catch weighing 5lb 11oz taken on pole fished red maggots on a 20 hook.
He was followed by Bill Turner of Trowbridge with another roach and skimmer catch weighing 4lb 13oz taken on pole fished red maggots on a 20 hook. Other placings: 4. Steve Howells, Trowbridge 1lb 10oz 8dm; 5. Richard Stainer, Trowbridge 1lb 9oz 8dm; 6. Dean Bird, Bradford 1lb 7oz 8dm.
The Wilts Angling Open match fished at Walden's Farm on Sunday produced fair weights.
Westbury ace Mike Withey took top berth with an all carp catch weighing 25lb 14oz taken on pole fished chopped worm on an 18 hook.
Veteran Stoke St Michael angler Terry Bruton again showed he has lost none of his skills taking second prize with a mixed catch of carp and chub weighing 19lb 4oz taken alternating with pole fished sweetcorn and casters on a 16 hook.
He was followed by Bradford on Avon's Ian Willetts with an all carp catch weighing 19lb 3oz taken on pole fished sweetcorn on a 14 hook. Other placings: 4. Andy Pritchard, Westbury 15lb 4oz; 5. Dave Bruton, Stoke St Michael 13lb; 6. Dean Adams, Bradford 10lb 4oz.
The calmer conditions have suited the fishing for trout fishermen on the Bristol Water reservoirs and all the lakes appear to be starting to fish well with plenty of moving fish on the better evenings.
With north east winds the fish have been down in the water most of the time and fishing sub surface with teams of nymphs and buzzers have proved favourite, although dries and emergers are catching when the fish start to rise.
At Chew boats continue to take excellent bags from the shallower areas of the lake Nunnery, the Island, North Shore, Wick and Herons.
Local star John Braithwaite took a magnificent 8lb rainbow from a Chew boat which he returned to the water unharmed.
Blagdon is improving all the while with bank fishermen matching boat anglers as the fish move over areas where the weed is beginning to grow.
At the barrows all lakes are producing good sport but No. 3 seems to be best at present where Andy Gillard took a fine 5lb rainbow.
Midsomer Norton fisherman Martin Ashburner-Hall has won one of the first monthly draw permits.
Chew produced a total catch of 804 trout last week averaging 2lb 3oz topped by a brown of 3lb 8oz and rainbow 8lb with 43 limit bags.
At Blagdon 485 fish averaging 2lb were recorded topped by a brown of 3 lb and rainbow 3lb 10oz.
