BASSETT captain Steve Twine won the toss and elected to field in their Glos/Wilts Division 1 game at Colwall.
John Clarke was asked to open the bowling for the first time this season along with Stuart Smith.
Although both bowled reasonably well, the opening partnership of Wolfendale and Powell dispatched any loose deliveries to the boundary, and after 25 overs their score stood at 100-0.
Twine decided to introduce himself and Nienaber into the attack, and Nienaber eventually had Wolfendale stumped for a solid 66 to leave the home side on 125-1.
Colwall's run rate was still on the increase so Sean Clark was brought into the attack.
Thomas tried his luck once too often on the quick singles and was run out by some excellent work in the field by Alleyne.
In the very next over Clark had Powell caught at mid-wicket for an impressive 67,
Nienaber and Clark then picked up two more quick wickets to leave the home side on 153-5 in the 39th over.
Riley and Kontarines put together a stand at the end with some improvised shots to leave the home side on 222-5 off their allotted 50 overs.
Twine decided to promote Nienaber up the order to open with Shama, and Bassett reached 30-0 off the first 15 overs.
Nienaber was first to go, trying to up the tempo, caught in the covers for 15. Alleyne's stay at the wicket was brief as he was caught behind off the bowling of Sutton for four.
Sean Clark came in at four to join Shama to try to build a partnership which was successful for a while until Clark was caught at mid-on for 21 to leave Bassett on 78-3 in the 25th over.
John Clarke looked in the mood until he was caught in the deep trying one too many big shots for 21 and Shama was out giving Sutton the charge for 24.
Bassett never really recovered from this hammer blow, and although Gallimore batted intelligently for his 31, Bassett faltered at the last hurdle and were bowled out for 170, leaving them 52 runs short.
