CHIPPENHAM Town are looking a new kit manager after club stalwart Tony Godwin resigned from his duties due to the extra travelling involved in the Dr Martens Premier League.

Godwin worked tirelessly behind the scenes as the Bluebirds reached the FA Vase final at Wembley and achieved two successive promotions and is still likely to help out at the club in another capacity.

He has been involved on the club's management team alongside Tommy Saunders, Colin Bush and physio John Lock for the past four years and chairman Malcolm Lyus feels he will be missed.

He said: "Tony Godwin did a fantastic job. There is a lot of commitment required now, at training twice a week and then the games, and Tony wouldn't do the job half-heartedly.

"He wanted to resign last season, but we managed to persuade him to stay on for another year. We didn't want to lose him and we thank him for what he has done for the club.

"He mothered the players and it wasn't just the kit he looked after, it was the balls, the water bottles and everything.

"His family are all involved at Chippenham and he's mad about the club. I'm sure we'll see him either stewarding or working behind the bar next season."

Manager Tommy Saunders is sorry to see Godwin leave, but said: "The new person will get into the games free of charge, travel away with the team and meet the opposing managers and players. It is a fantastic opportunity for any Chippenham fan."
