At last things seem to be looking up for the skateboarding enthusiasts in Devizes.
A new scheme to build a £200,000 indoor park at a youth centre next to Devizes School this week got the blessing of town councillors.
It is the first bit of good news the skaters have received since their ramps in Hillworth Park, Devizes, were closed following a county court case.
The shock and disappointment to boarders in Devizes was followed last month by North Wiltshire District Council being forced to close its ramps in Chippenham's Monkton Park, following a finding of maladministration by the local government ombudsman.
Now at least Devizes seems to be moving in the right direction and for once everyone is getting excited.
Young people have described the plan as brilliant and even Bill Richardson, the man whose stand forced the Hillworth Park site to close, thinks its a good idea.
It just shows that when everyone is consulted and there is a will to make something happen it can be done.
Of course there is still a long way to go before the new indoor ramps are completed but at least this proposal is a move in the right direction and an indication that all the councils town, district and county recognise the need to give young people a decent place to practise their hobby.
Let's hope that North Wiltshire learns a lesson from Devizes and also makes moves to quickly replace the ramps lost in Monkton Park and it, too, listens to the district's youth.
