COUNTY CRICKET: WILTSHIRE suffered yet another heavy defeat at the hands of Devon at Torquay on Sunday, this time in a one day match in the 38 County Cup in a match which decided the group winners in this competition.
Devon won the toss and put Wiltshire in to bat on a good wicket and Wiltshire's batsmen failed to make the most of the opportunity.
Of the top six batsmen only Chris Budd with 69 scored more than 12 in a dismal performance which saw Wiltshire at one time 87 for five wickets before Neil Shardlow, with a determined 42, marshalled the tail to take the score to 187, when Wiltshire were all out in the 50th and last over of their innings.
Devon had no difficulty in scoring the necessary runs in the 41st over with the loss of only one wicket.
Bobby Dawson scored 93 not out and Duncan Townsend 59 not out in a second wicket partnership of 167. Poor Wiltshire catching with four catches being missed assisted them. Devon's nine-wicket victory takes them to the quarterfinals of the competition with Wiltshire the runners-up in the group.
Wiltshire's next match is a three day Minor Counties Championship against Oxfordshire at Thame, starting on July 28.
