MALMESBURY remain at the foot of the Gloucester and Wiltshire League Division One after a seven-wicket defeat at Frocester on Saturday 6th July.

The visitors lost the toss and were asked to bat, but the score moved along steadily. Jeremy Newman and Chris Hurst reached 40 and 30 ras Malmesbury moved on to 76 for one after 25 overs.

But, following the dismissal of Newman and Hurst, only James Pearce-Smith, Ian Gould and Ben Taylor reached double figures. Thevisitors collapsed to 149 all out, narrowly missing out a batting point.

In reply the best bowling came from Richard Mosdell, Ian Gould, Mark Lester and Richard Gaunt, but Malmesbury were left to rue a series of dropped catches.

Trainor gave himself up early, trying for a third boundary in one Gould over, but the remaining Frocester batsmen were positive enough to prevent a collapse. The hosts claimed victory with 13 overs and seven wickets to spare.

Malmesbury will aim to bounce back when they face Colwall at The Worthys on Saturday.
