WHEELCHAIR users will now be able to make use of keep fit equipment at leisure centres in Devizes, Marlborough and Tidworth after Kennet District Council revamped its Fitness Zone gyms.
The opportunity came to upgrade the equipment with the ending of the five-year leasing agreement with the company that supplies the cardio-vascular and resistance machinery, including treadmills, rowing machines and cycling machines.
The new equipment is worth almost £150,000, although it is being leased to Kennet on a five-year contract.
For the first time wheelchair users will be able to make use of the gym as the new equipment can be adapted for their use.
The enormous success of the fitness suites, each notch up around 30,000 visits a year with a total of 200 people regularly using them, the opportunity was taken to enlarge the suite at Devizes Leisure Centre by expanding it into the small seminar room next door.
Under a promotional offer that runs until Sunday, Kennet is offering half-price induction sessions on the equipment and two weeks' free use of the fitness zones and swimming after each induction.
Anyone using their Kennet leisure card this month will be entered in a free prize draw.
