FORMER West End show singer David Dudley, who runs a jewellers shop in Marlborough, will be taking to the stage again for a charity concert being held in the town.

Baritone Mr Dudley has sung at several local events recently including the Marlborough carnival variety night, which he helped host last September.

Last year he achieved a personal ambition when he climbed 18,500 feet up Mount Everest to the base camp from which most of the successful summit attempts have been launched.

Mr Dudley raised one pound for every foot £18,500 for the Salisbury-based Hope and Homes charity, which sets up homes for orphaned children in the world's trouble spots.

The Classical Gala Concert on August 10 in the Memorial Hall at Marlborough College will benefit Hope and Homes and the Prospect Hospice at Wroughton, which provides care and support for people with terminal illnesses and also their families.

Joining Mr Dudley will be the celebrated Singapore-born concert pianist Linda Ang and soprano Sarah Colligan. As well as accompanying the two singers, Miss Ang will also be playing some solo pieces.

Mr Dudley, who began vocal training at 21 in Southampton, became principal soloist with many operatic societies and also sang professionally.

He said the programme will include a mixture of music ranging from opera to Oklahoma with some songs from Les Miserables.

The college grounds will be open from 5.30pm for guests who want to pic-nic before the show starts at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £12.50 in advance (children £6) or £10 on the door. They are available from Prospect Hospice Shops, and David Dudley Jewellers in Marlborough High Street.
