FEARS are growing over the status that a proposed new road on the outskirts of Amesbury will have a local link road or a town bypass.
The road in question is the southern section of the Amesbury link road, part of a proposed development of 550 new homes, a school, a cemetery and community facilities planned by developers JS Bloor (Newbury) and Persimmon Homes (South Coast) on 58 hectares of open land near Boscombe Down.
Residents who have bought new homes on adjoining residential estates are growing increasingly alarmed because the route of the new road is close to their homes.
At a meeting at Amesbury town council last week Cllr John Noeken assured local residents that, when the detailed planning application was discussed by northern area committee members, the use of the road would be high on the agenda.
Mr Noeken said: "This road will not be a major thoroughfare or a motorway.
"That is why so many roundabouts have been put in.
"Town councillors will ensure the road is used as intended as a local link road."
