JOURNALIST Bruno Clements has just returned from a gruelling 460-mile sponsored bike ride across the Pyrenees.
Mr Clements, 40, of Cyprus Terrace, Northgate Street, Devizes, has raised £300 for Sight Savers International, the charity that fights tracoma, river blindness and other sight-destroying diseases in the Third World.
Mr Clements, a sub-editor on the Bristol Evening Post, who has enjoyed bike riding for many years, took the famous Raid Pyrenen cycle route from Hendaye on the Atlantic coast to Cerbere on the Mediterranean coast.
He covered the 460 miles, across 18 mountain passes including the 2,115-metre high Col du Tournalet, in less than five days. Mr Clements said: "There are set control points along the route and you have to get your card stamped. You send the completed card in and get a medal proving you have done it.
"I had never been in the mountains before and it was breathtaking. It was an amazing experience but I don't know if I'd like to do it again."
Pledges of donations to Sight Savers International in recognition of Mr Clements' efforts, can be made on 07000 142020.
