TALENTED pupils from Matravers School in Westbury got a chance to show off their musical skills on Wednesday.
The youngsters were taking part in the school's Young Musician of the Year competition.
Kathryn Wray, head of music at the school, said: "It was a fantastic evening full of high-quality performances. We're very proud of everybody who took part."
Edward Cooke won the solo section on the piano and Kirsty Clinch and Lindsey Shakespeare snapped up the ensemble prize performing a vocal duet.
The competition was judged by Colin Hunt, an examiner for the Royal School of Music, and Clive Stocker, a lecturer at the City of Bath College.
Those who didn't want to enter the competition still got a chance to perform.
New steel pans allowed Year Eight to entertain the audience with a variety of pieces and many other students performed their own compositions.
There was also a chance to see the newly-formed student Popstars band perform.
Ms Wray said: "The event wouldn't have been possible without sponsorship from Westbury Lions Club and we are grateful for their contributions."
On Monday, students from the school were dressed to the nines for their first-ever sixth form ball.
The ball was held to celebrate the sixth formers' departure and pupils were in high spirits as they prepared for pastures new.
Mike Wood, a sixth form teacher, said: "The evening went well, overall it was a success. There were some interesting outfits, but aren't there always?"
The event had been planned well in advance and ticket sales exceeded expectations.
Held in Frome, it was a real away-from-school experience for the students and many of the staff helped support the event by arranging transport and the venue, as well as supervising festivities.
Following last year's Year 11 ball, which was black tie and smart dress, the boys took advantage of the not-so-strict dress code by wearing more casual clothing.
Student Emma Swadlo said: "It was a really good laugh, much better than last year. There were loads of people there and we all really enjoyed ourselves."
Staff hope the ball will become an annual event.
