MELKSHAM is the only town in west Wiltshire not to have a town crier and that is set to change.
The town council has decided that Melksham does have something to shout about and is considering finding someone to do just that.
Mayor Vic Oakman said: "We haven't had one for many years and it is something that should be resurrected.
"We have a lot of things to be proud of in Melksham."
In the past volunteers have stepped in to play the role when needed but the council now hopes to appoint someone permanently.
Cllr Terri Welch said: "There is a need for a person prepared to pull people together and to take part in civic occasions."
The council has already been contacted by someone interested in the job and enquiries are now being made about how to go about resurrecting the role.
Town clerk, John Crook, said: "Town criers are ambassadors for their towns."
