CORSHAM FC lifted the Len Glass Challenge Cup as Bromham Football Club held their third annual six-a-side men's football tournament at the village's Jubilee Playing Fields on Sunday.

The Chippenham and District League Premier Division side put the disappointment of defeat in the final of last year's event behind them to lift the trophy after a 2-0 win over runners-up West End Wanderers.

The two finalists had come past Castle Combe B and North Bradley respectively in the last four of the competition.

Simmeon Allison ensured West End Wanderers returned home with some silverware by lifting the play of the tournament award. He won the most man of the match awards from the referees on duty.

A total of 32 teams entered the increasingly popular tournament, with one team from Brixham, Devon making the 100-mile trip to Wiltshire to take part for the third year in a row.

Other sides had less far to travel, with the Mid Wiltshire Sunday League, the Swindon and District Sunday League and the Trowbridge and District League all represented on Sunday.

Teams were split into eight groups of four, with the winners of each progressing to the quarter finals.

Bromham vice-chairman and tournament organiser Kevin Amor felt the day had been another successful one for his club.

He said: "We had the maximum number of teams we can cope with as we can only fit three six-a-side pitches into the space, but it went well and we had a good day. We started sending out application forms in March and April and, by mid-May, we were full up. It is definitely getting more popular and it breaks your heart to turn people away two months before the day."

The tournament raised £800 and will help Bromham run two senior sides and a youth team next season.
