CINEMA-GOERS were surprised to discover a trailer for a new action movie is actually an advert for a luxury sports car.
Lucky Star, a commercial which has been shown on TV and during the trailers section in cinemas, is the latest Mercedes-Benz advert featuring the launch of the SL-Class sports car.
Mercedes believes Lucky Star, starring Oscar-winning Benicio Del Toro, is a movie industry first a trailer for a film that does not exist.
But Mercedes have not ruled out producing a feature length version of Lucky Star, which tells the story of the luckiest man alive. Oscar-nominated director Michael Mann said: "The picture itself I can almost imagine as a complete motion picture. It feels like Kiss Me Deadly which was made, I think, in 1956."
Mercedes-Benz communications manager Richard Payne said: "It's not a commercial selling that car, it's talking about the whole excitement and dynamism of the brand."
A two-and-a-half minute director's cut of the trailer can be viewed on www.luckyluckystar.com
