FRIENDS of a motorcycle enthusiast killed in an accident in Hilperton took part in a motorbike procession to his memorial service in the village on Tuesday.

Nick Wynne, 30, died after his motorcycle left the road at Hammond Way on June 18.

His funeral was in Manchester, where he grew up, last Friday but his friends, Dave Clark and Sue Goodreid, wanted to organise a tribute in Hilperton as well.

Miss Goodreid said: "It was brilliant, over 100 turned up and about 20 were on bikes."

The procession started at the Kings Arms pub, which is run by Mr Clark and Miss Goodreid, and cars followed the bikes to St Michael's and All Angels Church.

After the service the mourners returned to the pub and Mr Wynne's girlfriend, Theresa Peel, scattered his ashes around a memorial stone put up in the pub grounds.

Miss Peel, 23, has been left to raise the couple's four-month-old daughter, Phoenix, alone.

Mr Wynne also had four other children, Simon, 12, Brandon, six, and 10-year-old twins Lucinda and Nicola.

The older children had been to stay with their father just before the accident in which he lost control of the bike and ploughed into a road sign at 11.20pm.

Miss Peel received a phone call on the night of the accident and rushed to the scene to be with him while they waited for the ambulance to arrive.

He never regained consciousness and was later pronounced dead at the Royal United Hospital, Bath.

Mr Wynne moved to Trowbridge from Manchester two years ago and took over the Arc car wash at Bradley Road.

He later switched jobs to work at Marsh Road Car Sales and he and Miss Peel had moved to a new home at Towpath Road, Hilperton, six months ago.

Mr Wynne was well known in Trowbridge because of his passion for motorcycles, which he used to raise money for charity.

Mr Clark said: "He was one of those people who would do anything for anyone. He was always thinking of charity runs he could do on the bike."

For the last two years Mr Wynne had brightened the lives of sick children at Bristol Children's Hospital by organising an Easter egg run.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident to contact them on (01380) 722341.
