A PARISH register stolen from the Wiltshire and Swindon Record Office in Trowbridge has been returned.
The transcript of the Potterne parish register was stolen in March but was recently discovered at an antiques fair in Burford. It was found by regular record office user James Turner, from Swindon.
He said: "I'd gone to Burford and popped in at an antiques fair when I stumbled on this precious find. I immediately knew it should not be for sale.
"It is a one-off copy of the original register and the only one in Wiltshire.
"It was just pure luck that I stumbled across it so it could be returned for the public to use."
Campaigners are still fighting to keep the record office in Trowbridge despite attempts to move it to Chippenham.
