A SHOWCASE of talent is being presented at the annual Starry Eyes competition at Trowbridge Civic Hall on August 2.

The 2002 show promises to be the biggest and best since it began three years ago.

Councillor Sally Boyle, organiser of the event, said: "The show always attracts a lot of people to the town but I think we are looking at record numbers this year.

"Not only are there more entries but there is also more variety this year."

The event aims to show off talent from Wiltshire and the surrounding area, with 22 entrants competing for a place in two categories adult and under-16.

The oldest entrant is 83-year-old Peggy Adams. She said: "It has been my dream to get up on stage and sing. I used to do it when I was younger and it's my final wish to get back up there and sing if it's the last thing I do."

As well as the competition there will be entertainment on during the show including last year's talent show winner, Mimi Kevan, who will also present the new winner with the trophy.

Mimi walked off last year with £100 prize money and a day in a recording studio arranged.

Doors open at 6.30pm and tickets cost £4.50. For more information call (01225) 762439 or visit www.starryeyes.project404.net
