CHIPPENHAM Open match produced good weights from the Bristol Avon at Chippenham. First place went to Chippenham's Dennis Baker with a catch of 24lb 4oz. Melksham's Robin Guy took second prize with Stuart White, also of Chippenham, third.
The Chippenham evening match on the Bristol Avon at Chippenham produced mixed sport. Chippenham's Richard Clarke won with a mixed catch of tench, roach and skimmers weighing 8lb 12oz and runner up was Stuart White with 5lb 15oz 8dm. Steve Palmer, with an all roach catch of 4lb 10oz, was third.
The Airsprung evening match on the Kennet and Avon Canal at Tithe Barn produced mixed sport. In-form Trowbridge's Ian Stainer took top prize with 4lb 12oz. Runner-up was Trowbridge matchman Steve Southern with 3lb 5oz. He was followed by Atworth's Mick Dean with 2lb 9oz.
The Haines Angling Open evening match fished at Cuckoos Rest was won by Westbury's Martin Sparks with a weight of 22lb 10oz taken on pole fished worm on an 18 hook for a comfortable win. Runner-up was Gary Seymour from Frome and Westbury's Steve Martin third.
Weights were fairly even in the Devizes evening match at Crookwood Lake. Alan Brown from Swindon hooked 16lb 14oz. Runner-up was Kevin Rowles from Devizes with 15lb 9oz and Jim Escott (Melksham) third with 10lb 8oz 8dm.
The Calne evening match at Hazeland was again decided with chub catches. Top honours went to Calne's Nigel Smith with 5lb 3oz while runner up was Simon Fear with 4lb 9oz.
There were some good weights in the Bradford evening match on the Kennet and Avon Canal at Whaddon on Wednesday. Ian Willetts had a mixed catch of tench, bream and roach weighing 12lb 8oz and Neil Hounsell was second with 9lb 1oz. He was followed by Trowbridge veteran Dave Baker with 8lb 13 oz taken. Other placings: 4 Ton Ince (Trowbridge) 8lb 12oz; 5 Dave Foster (Bradford) 4lb 12oz.
The Airsprung match fished on Friday on the Bristol Avon at Bradford Golf Course produced low weights. Ian Stainer of Trowbridge chalked up another win with 3lb 15oz 8dm with second prize going to Bill Turner of Trowbridge with 1lb 13oz.
Fish were hard to tempt in the inter-club match between Airsprung and Warminster on Sunday on the Bristol Avon on the Pond Fields. Airsprung took the team honours with 9lb 3oz 8dm to Warminster's 7lb 6oz. Individual honours were shared by Warminster's Colin Ayton and Bob Trim both with weights of 3lb 1oz. Ninety four turned out on Sunday for the Devizes Open match on the Kennet and Avon Canal at Horton. Top honours went to Clevedon's Kevin Perry 24lb 2oz. Devizes' Brian Haigh took second prize with 12 lb 1 oz and Dave Jarvis third prize with an all tench catch weighing 11lb 5oz.
The second round in the Avon Commercial League was held on Sunday on the Bristol Avon at Avoncliffe and Bathford where fishing was very hard. Thornbury and Old 'Uns and Young 'Uns tied for top spot with 45 points with Bacons Gold third with 44.
Carp again provided good sport in the Wilts Angling Open match at Rood Ashton on Thursday evening. Top angler was Paul Bond (Trowbridge) with a carp catch weighing 40lb 8oz with Holt's Pete Neate second with 33lb 10oz.
Walden's Farm was the venue for the Wilts Angling Open match on Sunday where in-form Pete Neate from Holt carried off top prize with a carp catch weighing 32lb 13oz.
