There were long tailbacks on the A419 Swindon to Cirencester road yesterday (Thursday) when the southbound carriageway was closed following an accident.
A man whose car hit the central reservation was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The accident happened near the Cricklade turn-off. No other vehicles were involved. Swindon police spokeswoman Alvina Kumar said the accident happened at 1.49pm yesterday. The driver was taken to Princess Margaret Hospital, Swindon.
The carriageway was closed while wreckage was cleared, leading to long tailbacks.
