SWINDON'S branch of Age Concern has launched a grant scheme to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Groups which provide a service or activity for older people, with an annual budget of less than £10,000 a year, could be in line for a grant of up to £500.

Director of Age Concern Swindon, Jo Osorio, said: "The application form is quite straightforward. You need to have a proper set of rules or constitution, two or more signatories on your bank account, a clear idea of what you intend to do and a realistic view of how much it will cost."

In addition, the branch has set itself a target to raise an extra £50,000 in its 50th anniversary year.

Mr Osorio said: "2002 is Age Concern Swindon's Golden Anniversary and we have set ourselves this target to celebrate our 50th birthday so we don't let down the 500 older people we help directly every week throughout the year."
