IT has been many years since we enjoyed any plays, especially thrillers, at the Wyvern Theatre.
I must say that with the production of Who Killed Agatha Christie? it has been well worth the wait.
Who would have thought a play with only two characters could have been nailbiting? But it really was with so many twists and turns at a fast pace that it made your head swirl.
The final twist of the tale came in the very last sentence, which made the whole audience gasp in amazement!
A serious actor is not the image that first comes to mind when you mention the name of Lionel Blair. But once you forgot his TV persona and accepted him as Arthur (Agatha) Christie, theatre critic, it really was a convincing performance.
What can you say about George Sewell as the vengeful playwright?
He was, in turn, menacing, mysterious, flamboyant and funny. Sometimes the humour was unintentional but that added to the enjoyment.
As a double act, Lionel Blair and George Sewell worked splendidly together.
When they took their final bow it was lovely to share in their obvious pleasure at a job well done!
