Aldbourne FC manager David Dobson is urging fans to turn up in force for the team's first preseason fixture.

Dobson's side entertain Wiltshire League rivals Trowbridge today, but there is more at stake than the average domestic curtain-raiser.

The two teams will be contesting the Charlotte Wakeham Challenge Cup, in a bid to raise funds for its terminally ill namesake.

Seven-year-old Charlotte is suffering from an irreversible brain disease and has been given just months to live.

So hearing of her plight, Dobson and the Aldbourne club aim to raise enough money through the fixture to help send Charlotte on her dream holiday to Disney Land.

The Aldbourne boss duly arranged a friendly with Charlotte's well-supported home town club Trowbridge.

"The main objective is to try and get Charlotte this holiday," said Dobson.

"We are ultimately trying to raise as much money as possible for her, and Trowbridge still have a big fanbase so that will help."

Local radio stations will also be fundraising on Charlotte's behalf by organising a string of events throughout the day to coincide with the fixture.

"I want it to be a special day for obvious reasons," added Dobson.

"There's going to be so much going on during the day, it's just nice to be a part of it."

The charity match kicks off at Aldbourne FC at 3pm today, entry costs £1 for adults and 50p for children and OAPs.

Aldbourne have secured a new sponsorship deal with Barron Heating, who will finance the kit for the 2002/03 season.
