POOR old John Inverdale is used to presenting live BBC sport from the more palatial environs of Twickenham, Wimbledon and Henley.
But the silver-tongued broadcaster donned his goalkeeping gloves for a football match with a difference at the County Ground on Saturday all in aid of Sport Relief.
The Evening Advertiser challenged colleagues at BBC Wiltshire Sound to a penalty shootout on the hallowed County Ground turf and raised £100 for the charity, which helps disadvantaged children across the country.
On a blisteringly hot day, Evening Advertiser deputy sports editor Steve Butt kept his cool for the first spot kick that sent celebrity keeper Inverdale the wrong way.
It was level pegging all the way until Wiltshire Sound presenter Rachel Hodges failed with her attempt, and the final score was 7-6.
"There could only be one winner, and I'm sorry to say it was the Advertiser," joked Inverdale afterwards.
