Swindon completed successive league victories for the first time this season
with a convincing eight-wicket win against Devizes at the County Ground in their Glos/Wilts League Division 1 outing.
The home side were asked to field and Devizes began brightly against some sluggish bowling and fielding.
Devizes passed 40 without loss inside the first 10 overs but paceman Pete Stinchcombe, in fine form of late, made the first breakthrough in the 13th over when he clean bowled Stobbart for 12. He followed this up in his very next over with an identical dismissal of Smith, and then had Muse caught behind by Beasant as Devizes stumbled to 53-3.
The wicket was also proving helpful to tricky spinner Zohaib, and he got in on the act by trapping Hillard lbw in the 23rd over, with the score on 67.
Colyer and Edwards began to repair some of the damage and the pair took the score to 114 in the 35th over before Colyer was bowled by Zohaib for 27.
Devizes were back in the mire a couple of overs late as Alan Cock caught Edwards off Zohaib, who returned figures of 3-50 from his 15 overs.
Cock and Stinchcombe then proceeded to rip through the tail, as the last four wickets fell for 11 runs.
Stinchcombe ended with five wickets for the second week in a row, as Devizes were all out for 144.
In reply, Andy Compton was typically severe on anything off line from the Devizes attack and his innings quickly took the game away from the visitors.
He hit 54 from only 44 balls, including 10 fours and a six, before being caught and bowled by Doran with the score on 80. John Baden followed three balls later, out lbw, but this proved to be only a slight hiccup as skipper Nichols joined Beasant at the wicket.
The pair added the necessary runs as Nichols eased Swindon past the visitors' score with a six in the 25th over. He was 43 not out, and Beasant unbeaten on 26.
Swindon 2nd beat their Devizes counterparts in a close encounter.
Swindon posted 233-8 in their 45 overs, with Willoughby and Baker hitting 50s and Oliver Richardson then took four wickets as Devizes fell 14 runs short with eight wickets down.
