Swindon Supermarine boss John Murphy was determined to draw some positives from his side's first pre-season defeat at the hands of Bath.

Murphy saw his men lose 3-0 to the visiting Dr Martens Premier outfit, but wasn't too downbeat after the game.

"Generally I thought we were quite competitive that was the good thing," said manager Murphy.

"You don't want to read too much into the result.

"Overall, from a fitness point of view, we're happy."

Marine were trailing to Bertrand Cozic's first-half strike with 10 minutes to go.

But a superb late double from Bath substitute and recent Chippenham target Jamie Gosling condemned Marine to a more convincing loss.

In truth, Marine looked like they were playing their first game for two months.

The passing was disjointed, and they struggled to carve any chances until both Pete Macklin and Tom Jones squandered late opportunities to level.

Plus points for Murphy would have included a bright debut from Warren Fuller, and an impressive cameo from academy youngster Gary Smart.
