THE town council in Chippenham wants to know if people think it is doing a good job.

The council has just published its third Best Value Performance Plan which outlines the responsibilities, achievements and new targets in the coming year, including ambitious plans for the Neeld Hall and the town's new playing fields.

But councillors are now looking for some feedback.

Town clerk Laurie Brown said: "It's a living document and it is improving year on year. Consultations are taking place within various reviews but we can always take more feedback. It can only help us to provide a better service."

This is the third Best Value Performance Plan and leader Coun Sandie Webb said she is looking forward to what she hopes will be the best year yet.

She said a high proportion of people had expressed satisfaction with the service given by the council, and the CCTV coverage of the town centre was particularly appreciated.

"The coming year will be especially exciting with work about to start on our newly acquired playing fields, an education centre due to open at the Heritage Museum, and with improvements taking place to the Town and Neeld Halls," she said.

The Neeld Hall will be a major area of development for the town council this year.

It has taken over the building from North Wiltshire District Council and aims to refurbish the building and market it more effectively.

The museum and heritage centre has also been identified for major improvements with three further galleries and an education centre on the cards, as well as the appointment of an education officer for three years.

The council is also planning to appoint a project manager to develop the town's new playing field facility on 47 acres between Stanley Lane and the A4.

Members hope to find partnership funding for the playing fields project, and to carry out all design work so tenders can be sought for the preparation of the fields.

More than 200 copies of the performance plan will be sent to councillors, staff, commercial organisations and the Citizens' Advice Bureau. Residents can get a copy from the town hall, library, or a copy can through the post on request.
