A MAIDEN league century from teenager Steve Gee helped Goatacre to a six-wicket home win over Lydney on Saturday 13th July.
Chasing Lydney's target of 187 to win, the hosts made a poor start with the wickets of Andy Dawson and Andy Donegan falling early on.
Gee began his memorable innings with five early boundaries, but Goatacre continued to surrender wickets and soon found themselves in some trouble at 65 for four after both Parish and Matt Wilkins were dismissed.
Captain Peter Turner then joined 18-year-old Gee at the crease and the pair set about repairing the damage. Gee ensured the home side continued to score at a good rate, with 48 of his first 50 runs coming from boundaries.
The prolific Gee then hammered two enormous sixes and, with Turner also scoring freely, Goatacre raced towards their target. Gee finished on 101 not out and Turner reached his half-century as Goatacre won with six wickets and ten overs to spare.
Earlier, Lydney won the toss and elected to bat first on a perfect afternoon for cricket. With New Zealander Hamilton taking advantage of any wayward deliveries, they were given an excellent start despite losing opener Kear off the bowling of Turner.
With change bowlers Rhan Heer and Dawson both bowling well, the run rate began to fall and Lydney reached 70 at the halfway stage.
Dawson made the crucial breakthrough when he had Hamilton stumped for 74 and, with eight overs remaining, the wickets finally began to tumble. The visitors slumped from 163 for two to 186 for eight, with Kevin Iles taking three wickets for 36 runs.
