STAFF at Wiltshire County Council are to benefit from a talk on personal safety by the director of the Suzy Lamplugh Trust.
Diana Lamplugh founded the trust in 1986 the year in which her estate agent daughter, Suzy, disappeared while showing a man around a house in London. Mrs Lamplugh now devotes her time to helping others avoid the traps her daughter fell into.
She says Suzy ignored warning signs when she went alone to show a client round an empty house.
Mrs Lamplugh said: "What happened to Suzy need not have happened. Our work over the last decade has focused on helping people to learn skills which can help prevent them becoming a victim.
"We take a positive approach to the aggression and violence which seems endemic in society today".
Mrs Lamplugh will be visiting County Hall in Trowbridge on Monday. Topics will include personal safety and what that means to the individual, practical relaxation techniques for handling difficult situations, strategies and procedures to reduce risk and defuse potentially dangerous situations, as well as awareness and recognition of the many forms of aggression.
The county's health and safety manager Paul Collyer said: "Personal safety of staff is an issue the county council takes very seriously and we are constantly looking at ways to protect our staff from potential risk."
