A ROW over a BBC garden makeover is set to be smoothed over.
Chippenham couple Sylvia and Martin Johns were horrified when they saw a platform and a cube fence erected in their next door neighbour's garden, in Gundry Close, as part of a makeover for the Small Town Gardens programme, due to be screened later this year.
But this week Mr and Mrs Johns received a letter from the BBC confirming a compromise solution agreed with the Johns at a meeting last week.
Mr Johns would not reveal the details of the arrangement but said the agreement involved him terracing his own garden before the BBC made changes to the neighbouring garden, belonging to Karen Ferriman, including a reduction in the fence height.
"They have finished work on the garden now and completed filming on Wednesday," said Mr Johns.
"There is still a lot of mess to clear up and stuff outside."
The latest addition to the makeover, which included a large platform and the blue fence made up of rolling cube shapes, was a chimney through the platform connected to a wood burning stove in the grotto underneath.
Mr Johns said the creators of the garden had ensured the chimney did not exceed the height of the fence.
MP James Gray has also stepped been involved in the dispute.
"He saw an article in the national press and wrote to say that if he could help we should contact him," said Mr Johns.
The BBC is required to seek planning permission for the structure because of special conditions relating to what residents can build in their gardens on the estate.
