THE peak of Calne's outrageous hat decorator Geoff Brown's career was when Rolf Harris performed in one of his wacky designs at last month's Glastonbury Festival.
The hat was adorned with an Australian flag, didgeridoo, boomerang and fluffy kangaroos and koala bears.
But Mr Brown, 53, of The Pippin, is now to crown this achievement by sending the Queen and Prince Phillip special jubilee hats. The Queen's hat will be decked with bunting, a Union Jack, a tiara, and teddy bears.
Mr Brown's hat decorating hobby took off seven years ago when a friend gave him a stuffed toy mouse, which he sowed on to his straw hat.
In 1994 Mr Brown was diagnosed with myalgic encephalomyelitis, which forced him to give up his landscape gardening job.
A volunteer and fundraiser for Wiltshire Mind, he now has 56 themed hats ranging from the Wombles to Beanie Babes. He said: "I make the hats to bring some cheer and a little fun into the world."
He has sold five hats to raise £140 for Wiltshire Mind, and the Mill Race Centre in Calne, which helps people with mental and emotional problems.
