CHILDREN at Seend Primary School last week immersed themselves in the jungle as part of their arts week activities.
The National Curriculum was put to one side as they depicted the endangered Amazonian rainforest of South America in painting, music, dancing and drama.
Headteacher Christine Ramsay said: "The children loved it. We are keen on encouraging the arts. Because the National Curriculum stresses work on English, mathematics and science, if you're not careful the arts can be pushed right out."
The youngest children built up a big display of animals who live in the rainforest, the next class concentrated on the birds and insects. Another class depicted the plant life while the top class were concerned with people who live in rainforests.
Pupils from all classes painted a mural on the outside of the school.
