THE next generation of young artists have the chance to hone their skills at a summer school in Swindon.
The two week course for gifted and talented artists, at Peatmoor Primary School, is open to youngsters in school years six, seven, eight and nine.
The free course is aimed at artists but will also involve music and dance, and will culminate in a performance for parents.
Youngsters will learn how to make and play the traditional African drum the djembe, which is made from hollowed out mango trees and goatskin.
Drum facilitator Geoff Miles, of Marlborough based company Kaya, will teach the children how to play the drum using his experience learning in the Gambia.
There are still a few places left, but youngsters must be recommended by one of their teachers.
Peatmoor Primary headteacher Terri Peacock said: "We want to extend children's skills artistically and musically, so they have to be good at art and very good with their hands because the drums are difficult to make."
If you would like more information about securing a place on the course contact Terri Peacock on Swindon 887473.
