The findings of last November's survey by focus groups into the levels of dissatisfaction with Wiltshire County Council will come as no surprise to those of us who have campaigned for reductions of vehicle speed levels in our respective localities and outside schools in Wiltshire.

From less than 200 applications last year only six or seven were actually approved.

This contrasts sharply with Somerset County Council which recently approved 500 and Bath and North East. Somerset which approved 15 in the Chew Valley area.

The usual excuse in Wiltshire is that it cannot be done because there is no money and the blame for this is normally put on underfunding by the Government.

How much more money is to be spent on increasing numbers of press officers and spin doctors?

The ruling Conservative party should realise that the public have had their fill of spin from the present incumbents of Downing Street and are unlikely to be impressed by PR.

We want to see our roads repaired, our pavements fit to walk on, and we will not tolerate our street lights being turned off.

The survey likened Wiltshire County Council to an ostrich, one wonders what the result would have been if "dodo" had been an option on the list.

Whatever the creature, it behoves members of the county council to remember where the buck stops.
