IT was one big song and dance last weekend as children, parents, grandparents and teachers mucked in at Westbury Junior School fete to raise money for a new playground.

As part of Westbury School's effort to raise £6,000 to refurbish their playing area, more than 500 people were treated to a showcase of musical talent, games, bouncy castles, raffles and tombolas.

The three-hour event kicked off with performances by the school dance group and a recorder group.

Headteacher Richard Hatt said: "It was a wonderful day and we are thrilled to have raised a record amount of money."

Despite not raising the full sum needed, the day will be remembered as a total success.

"We still have a way to go but we were so pleased with the turnout and everybody enjoyed themselves."

He added: "It was fantastic to see the whole community together and the school would like to thank everybody for attending the event."
