MORNING rush-hour traffic was brought to a standstill for the fourth time as police escorted an abnormally wide load from Westbury to the M4 at Chippenham.
Roads in Wiltshire were jammed as the load made its way along the A350 with a police escort on Wednesday.
The load was the fourth of eight taking structures for a glass roof from a Westbury fabrication firm to a building site near Tower Bridge in London. Two more loads are expected next week.
The transporter lorry was so wide it had to be driven down the middle of the road.
Police said they were unable to give motorists prior warning of the load, because they were only notified of it themselves the previous evening.
The convoy began its journey from Brook Lane industrial estate in Westbury and was taken with a police convoy along the A350 to the M4 where it was handed over to another team of police.
