AN innings of 75 from captain Rob Shillaker proved in vain as Corsham 2nd were defeated by 11 runs at home to Cheltenham 2nd on Saturday 13th July.
Cheltenham won the toss and elected to bat first on a flat Corsham track, only for Jamie Rowe to strike early when he removed opener Bailey with the score on 24.
Medium pacer Jones made the vital breakthrough when he had dangerman Thompson caught by Simon Acornley after scoring 83 runs in as many minutes.
Jones finished with five for 40 runs from eight overs as the visitors closed on 197 for nine.
In reply, Corsham overcame the early loss of Chris Bultitudewith some determined batting from Shillaker and Steve Copland. Shillaker eventually perished after scoring 75, while Eamonn Scully finished unbeaten on 34 as Corsham closed on 186 for five.
