TROWBRIDGE Town's new manager Neil Kirkpatrick plans to tap in to the rich pool of football talent in the town.

Kirkpatrick believes there are enough good footballers in Trowbridge to form a decent Screwfix Direct League team and plans to prove it in his first management role in senior football.

Whether Trowbridge will ever get back to Screwfix League football depends on the success of negotiations to find a new ground but if they are successful Kirkpatrick plans to have a team capable of competing at the higher level. "I'm not going to concern myself with the new ground, that's a job for the club's committee but I'm convinced there is enough talent in the town to make up a good Screwfix team," said Kirkpatrick.

He plans to strengthen the links with the club's reserve team, who will be playing in the Intermediate Division of the Wiltshire League this season, and the new A team, who will compete in the Trowbridge League.

There will also be closer links with the successful Trowbridge Town Youth set-up.

"The Trowbridge Town Youth under 15s won the league and cup double last season and it won't be long before those players will be pushing for places in adult football," said Kirkpatrick.

"The first team and reserve team players have been training together this pre-season and I want it to run as one club."

Kirkpatrick, who is 38, played for Larkhall Athletic and Warminster Town in the Screwfix League before a successful spell with Bradford Town in the Wiltshire League.

He joined the new Trowbridge Town club as player three years ago but missed most of last season after breaking an ankle.

He plans to remain registered as a player but is likely to spend most of the season on the bench.

He will appoint an assistant soon and has already named experienced campaigner, Gordon Saunderson, as the new club captain.
