ON behalf of the Trowbridge and District Christian Aid committee, may I thank all the people of Trowbridge and the surrounding villages for their extremely generous response to the recent house-to-house collection.

The amount collected was £9,826.81 which is a magnificent 8.09 per cent up on last year. This has been forwarded to headquarters for use around the world to alleviate the problems of those less fortunate than ourselves.

In addition, this year we are most grateful for those who, by endorsing the name and address on the envelopes, will enable a further approximately £832 to be tax refunded by the government.

ROGER F NEWMAN,

Honorary Treasurer, Trowbridge and District Christian Aid Committee,

Blind Lane,

Southwick,

Trowbridge.

MAY we through your columns thank the people of Bradford on Avon who were so kind and helpful when we lost our cat shortly after moving here.

After putting up posters advertising our loss, generally we met concern and helpfulness. Apart from the few (unknown) who decided for whatever reasons to destroy or deface the posters.

As newcomers to the town we wish to say thank you to everyone particularly the staff at T and A Motors and the local farmer who helped and let them know that after six weeks Button is finally back at home.

He is fit and remarkably well and returning to his usual madcap behaviour.

Thank you.

JACQUIE, MARTIN AND JENNY ANDREWS,

Avonfield Avenue,

Bradford on Avon.
